Bethel School District Adopts Inquiry By Design’s Spanish Language Arts Curriculum for High School

Bethel School District, located in Spanaway, WA, has adopted Inquiry By Design's one-of-a-kind secondary Spanish Language Arts (SLA) curriculum for grade 9. Teachers will begin implementing the equitable, standards-aligned Spanish Language Arts curriculum during the 2024-2025 school year, adding a grade level each successive year.

Inquiry By Design’s student-centered, literacy-based secondary Spanish Language Arts (SLA) curriculum introduces essential pedagogy in ways that are supportive, clear, and that can be scaled to work. Like all students, multilingual learners deserve opportunities to engage in rich, challenging work that develops their reading, writing, and speaking and listening skills in a positive, inquiry-based environment. All materials are aligned to the Spanish Common Core State Standards, as well as the Biliteracy Framework, and match the rigor and complexity of Inquiry By Design’s English Language Arts curriculum. 

Bethel is one of several school districts across the country to adopt Inquiry By Design, including Federal Way Public Schools (9-12), Highline Public Schools (6-12), Port Townsend (6-8), and Renton Public Schools (9-12). The company also continues work with several other West Coast districts, including Bend-La Pine (6-8), North Clackamas (6-8), Tigard-Tualatin (6-12), and Reynolds (6-12) in Oregon, as well as Alameda (3-12), Berkeley Unified School District (6-8), and Cupertino (6-8) in California.
