Inquiry By Design Launches Secondary Spanish Language Arts Curriculum
Inquiry By Design, a leading provider of English Language Arts (ELA) instructional materials, is thrilled to announce the launch of their Secondary Spanish Language Arts Curriculum. This innovative program combines their successful Dual Language program with grade-level selected SLA units, providing a comprehensive and engaging learning experience for students in grades 6 through 12. The curriculum includes teacher manuals and student readers entirely in Spanish and aligned to the Biliteracy Framework, enabling seamless implementation in Spanish-speaking classrooms. With the launch of this innovative curriculum, Inquiry By Design continues to lead the way in student-centered literacy education in Spanish. The inquiry-based company’s current district partners using Spanish materials include Highline Public Schools (6-12) in Washington, DSST Public Schools (6-8) in Colorado, Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District Dual Language Academy (7) in California, and Hillsboro School District (7-12) in Oregon. Educators and school districts across the country can now access a comprehensive program that fosters inquiry, critical thinking, and language development in Spanish-speaking classrooms.
The Secondary Spanish Language Arts Curriculum is designed to meet the following criteria:
- Guaranteed Viable Curriculum: The selected units allow for an annual scope and sequence across grade levels that is rigorous and standards aligned. Curriculum maps outline each unit in detail, including duration, texts and authors, key standards, and key tasks.
- Seamless Implementation: By providing all teacher manuals and student readers in Spanish, Inquiry By Design eliminates the need for SLA teachers to switch between English and Spanish, reducing frustration and facilitating effective implementation.
- Collaboration Opportunities: The curriculum encourages collaboration between all language arts teachers. Since every Inquiry By Design Spanish unit is aligned to state-level standards, common discussions can be had across teachers related to student progress.
The curriculum begins with the “Introduction to Text-Based Writing in Spanish” unit, which allows students to delve deeper into the practices of close reading and interpretive work. Through comprehensive cycles of activities, students engage in small- and large-group discussions, note-taking, and writing tasks, ultimately developing formal interpretive argument papers. This unit also provides an opportunity for students to explore writing styles by emulating the authors’ point of view, syntax, and descriptive techniques.
Inquiry By Design is committed to student-centered literacy and language learning marked by the reading, writing about, and discussion of content-rich, complex texts. The company firmly believes that all students deserve—and even crave—real, meaningful, and relevant work. Hence, its motto: No fake work.
