Inquiry By Design's Curriculum Meets Equity-Based California Social Content Standards

 

CA Dept of EdAugust 27, 2024 — Inquiry By Design (IBD), a leading provider of English Language Arts curriculum, is pleased to announce that its instructional materials for grades 6-8 have successfully met the social content standards set forth by the California State Board of Education (SBE). This approval confirms that IBD's materials comply with Education Code sections 60040-60045 and 60048, as well as the SBE guidelines outlined in the Standards for Evaluating Instructional Materials for Social Content, 2013 Edition.

The rigorous review process ensures that all instructional materials used in California public schools adhere to the following criteria:

  1. Accurate and Equitable Cultural and Racial Representation: Materials must portray the cultural and racial diversity of American society accurately and equitably.
  2. Acknowledgment of Contributions: The contributions of minority groups and both males and females to the development of California and the United States must be demonstrated.
  3. Positive Role Models: People in varied, positive, and contributing roles should be emphasized to influence students' school experiences constructively.
  4. Commercial Neutrality: Instructional materials must not contain inappropriate references to commercial brand names, products, and corporate or company logos.
